From the Wolf Family Group Leadership

🐺 Welcome and Hello Wolf Family!

Before we start, this newsletter is for any parents or guardians that want to learn about what we do as the Wolf Family Group for Witch Hazel Elementary, how we help the kids, and support the school. We couldn’t do any of this without the amazing support from our Parents and School Staff! 🐺

Thank you to everyone who assisted in getting items ready for our first Fall Festival & Dance at our October 1 Wolf Family Group meeting! We greatly appreciate your help!

If you would like to attend our Wolf Family Group meetings we’d love to have you! They are (mostly) the First Thursday of the month from 5-6pm in the library. Witch Hazel Elementary provides dinner for us, as well as childcare in the cafeteria. You can subscribe to our Wolf Family Group Google calendar here for notifications!

Our next Wolf Family Group meeting is:

Thursday, November 6 @ 5pm in the Library

🙌 Volunteer Opportunities

We need your help to make our events a success! You can volunteer without the background check required by HSD because our events are after school hours.

  • Fall Festival, Friday October 17

    • 3:00 set-up

    • 5:00 pm start

    • 7:30 pm teardown.

    • We need help putting up decorations, manning craft stations, food stations, dance chaperones (in case it gets a bit too much fun), and clean-up.

  • Playground gazebo installation: We got new Gazebos to help shade the playground for our beautification project! We’ll need volunteers to help build and install the two gazebos in our playground.

  • Our teachers need volunteers too! If you are cleared by HSD with a fingerprint and background check, please let us know when you fill in the form!

Parent Contributions

🫶 Family Support

Each month we’ll share simple ways you can support our school with items from home.

  • Blue Bags: If you received a Blue Bag during our Welcome Back night, please remember to return filled BottleDrop Blue Bags to any drop off location to help raise funds for our Wolf Family Group.

  • Restaurant Fundraiser: This month we are talking with Ranch Pizza for October’s restaurant fundraiser! Stay tuned for more details!

Building Together

🏗 Project & Fundraiser Updates

  • Shade Structures: Our gazebos arrived! 🎉 The location has been approved by Hillsboro Utilities, and the school district! Next step is the concrete pour! We’re excited to get these installed to provide shade and shelter on the playground. Parent volunteers will be needed for installation! So let us know if you’ll be able to help!

  • Wolf Gear: Our ongoing fundraiser! We have 4 styles in kid and adult sizes, hoodies, and we’ll be adding more items soon! You can order anytime at ourwolffamily.org

Tips for Families

💡 Parent Tips & Resources

From Principal Debbie Alvarado:

  • Routine Matters: Consistent sleep helps children be ready to learn.

  • Screen Time: Excessive use affects how children interact with the world. Consider charging phones outside bedrooms.

  • Attendance: “9 or less is best” — students with 94% or better attendance are more likely to succeed.

  • Security resources: The officers at Hillsboro Police Department mentioned at the most recent Coffee with the Principal, that we as parents have the ability/option to contact them if needed. You can contact them through our principal, Ms. Alvarado, or Directly.

    • Non-emergency number: Officer Edgar Garfias

    • (503)629-0111

    • Tue- Fri 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM
